So You Want to Own a Lighthouse?

Welcome to the national comprehensive resource for historic preservationists and lighthouse lovers everywhere! The purpose of this web site is to serve as a clearinghouse of information about successful lighthouse management and organizational issues, as well as to facilitate understanding of the transfer of ownership process under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act (NHLPA) of 2000. If you are interested in finding out what it takes to own and operate a lighthouse, we've collected all the relevant links for you, here in one central location.

Come back to our web site regularly to keep up-to-date on the latest news regarding lighthouse issues from around the country. We will provide you with resources and links to important information, ideas for fundraising projects at your own light station, and continuing educational opportunities with the National Maritime Heritage Education Series. This series includes four major seminars that will take place in different locations around the U.S. over the next three years. The first seminar will be held in St. Augustine, Florida from November 11 through November 14, 2003. Please click on the links of the compass rose at right to read more details about the seminar series, and to access the schedule and download the registration form for the St. Augustine seminar.

This web site is coordinated by the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum and funded with the support of Harbour Lights Corporation, makers of award-winning, collectible lighthouses. If you are interested in becoming involved in this national joint venture, or would like a link to your organization's web site placed on this page, please contact us.

Thank you for visiting our site and please check back with us regularly!

2005 Northeast Lighthouse Conference

Downloadable Info

This is an excellent opportunity for lighthouse enthusiasts and the public to learn more about the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000. This legislation enables non-profit entities, state, and local governments to acquire lighthouses that have been identified as excess property by the USCG. We welcome your participation in this event and will forward additional information as it becomes available.
